Make the Most of the Last Month of Summer with This Summer Bucket List

Things might be still be sweltering around the country, but this summer season is giving definite “not-here-for-long” vibes. And if you’ve got school starting all too soon, you’re probably ready to make the most of these last weeks of sunshine and freedom!

Whether you're looking for exciting outdoor adventures or preparing for the upcoming back-to-school season, we’ve got some don’t-miss activities to make sure you’re sending summer out with a bang – and totally prepped for the fall season ahead!

1. Beach Bonfire Night:

Got a beach? You need a bonfire! Gather your friends and family for a carefree evening on the beach – or banks – or your nearest body of water! Grab some hot dogs and marshmallows and send summer off with sparks flying (literally).

  1. Camping Under the Stars:

If you love camping but hate packing a zillion layers to survive those mountain evenings, don’t miss the luxury of a balmy summer night! Escape into nature (near or far!) for a weekend camping trip. Take a hike, stargaze, explore and admire the beauty only nature can design!
  1. Picnic in the Park:

Turn any slow summer day into a quintessential activity – all it takes is a basket and some basic lunch items! Pack your favorite snacks, sandwiches and refreshing drinks – along with a beach blanket or two – and head to a nearby park to turn lunch into a summer adventure.
  1. Watch the Sunrise and Sunset:

What’s the point of those long summer days if you’re not relishing every moment? Wake up for an early morning walk to admire the sunrise – or just take it in from your back porch with a cup of coffee. Then, just for kicks, watch that same sun set over the summer horizon that evening and admire those cotton-candy pinks only the summer season can paint.
  1. Plant Fall Flowers:

Believe it or not, fall is around the corner! And nothing will drive that idea home better than a few withering summer blooms in your front yard. Get a head start on autumn cheer by planting fall flowers like chrysanthemums or pansies. It will add a burst of color to your outdoor space – and prevent it from looking like the wake of summer death – right as the leaves start to change.
  1. Organize a Yard Sale:

Take advantage of those unscheduled days by decluttering your home! Nothing will make you feel more organized for fall than a simplified household, so spend a day or two sorting out old, unwanted items and clothes the kids have grown out of – then organize a casual yard sale! It's a great way to let go of items you no longer need and help someone else find treasures.
  1. Visit a Farmers' Market:

If you haven’t taken advantage of the season’s sweetest offerings, it’s time to hit the market – the farmer’s market, that is. Find one close to you and indulge in the bounty of fresh fruits, vegetables and artisanal products. It's a delightful way to support local businesses and savor the flavors of the season – the flavors that inspired our newest Sweet Sweet Summer collection!
  1. Learn a New Water Sport:

It’s never too late – and you’re never too old – to hop up on a jet ski or learn to paddle board. Take advantage of the warm weather by trying something new like paddleboarding, kayaking or water skiing. It's a fun way to stay active and cool off during the remaining summer days.
  1. Movie Night Under the Stars:

Warm, balmy nights call for staying up late! Set up an outdoor movie night in your backyard by hanging a white sheet and projecting a movie under the stars! All you need are blankets and snacks for a festive night the whole family (and maybe friends and neighbors) will enjoy.
  1. Go on a Road Trip:

If you’ve yet to hit the road this summer, there’s still time! A simple weekend road trip to explore nearby attractions, scenic routes or charming towns is the perfect way to spend some of summer’s remaining weekends. No plan, no problem! Embrace the spirit of adventure and go where the road takes you!
  1. Make Homemade Ice Cream:

Cool off with a sweet treat by making homemade ice cream. Experiment with different flavors and toppings to create your signature summer delight – do it right and this will become a family tradition you come back to every summer. If you need some inspo, check out Food & Wine’s list of mouthwatering recipes!
  1. Read Books in a Hammock:

When was the last time you sat outside with a good book? If the answer is “I don’t remember,” you’re definitely due! Find a quiet corner in your backyard or a nearby park, set up a hammock and spend lazy afternoons immersed in a great read. Check out Harpers Bazaar for the best beach reads of 2023.
  1. Prepare for Back-to-School:

If you’re like us, back-so-school tends to hit us from out of the blue! Think ahead this year and use the next couple weeks to get organized for a successful academic year. Shop for supplies, plan lunch menus and set up dedicated study areas so you’re primed for success!
  1. Clean and Store Summer Gear:

Are water toys and outdoor gear cluttering your garage or mud room? Take a day to clean and properly store summer gear like beach umbrellas, pool toys and outdoor furniture to protect them for the following year. Summer 2024 you will thank 2023 you.
  1. Attend an Outdoor Concert or Event:

Check out local events, concerts or outdoor performances happening in your area. It's a great way to enjoy the waning summer sunlight and some live entertainment.

Summer is magical, so be sure you’re making the most of every last day!  And if you’re looking for a way to bring the spirit of late summer into your home, check out our Sweet Sweet Summer collection, inspired by the fruits of our very favorite season!
